The Cafe Cocktail Competiton
These days the café cold drinks menu should be more than just a fizzy soft drink from the fridge. When the weather warms up people want a cold alternative to their coffee and what could be better than a non alcoholic cocktail to keep customers coming back?
Each competitor has 5 mins to make a designer cocktail. The Competition is judged on taste, creativity, preparation and presentation.
Centre stage at Cafe Biz 09 03 & 04 May 2009 Randwick Racecourse Sydney

The Blendtec Cafe Cocktail Competition 2008

If you like Pina Coladas, then you’ll have loved this year's first Blendtec 2008 Café Cocktail Competition.
In the Mix was Mel Sharpe and Graeme McCormack from Coco Cubano, Zach Hoitis from Zach’s Kafe Kitchen, Stefano Folcarelli from The Italian Syrup Company in NZ and Aimen Krayem from Da Vinci Gourmet.
Head to head with 5 mins prep time, 10 mins show time and 5 mins clean up these guys had to impress 4 tough judges - Sean Edwards, Emma Markland-Webster, Blendtec Craig Mathie and Damien Kelly.
The competitors rose to the challenge creating a new cocktail class of their own. Armed with a Blendtec blender Aimen served up Midnight Passions, a zingy Berry whirl with a dash of lemon coconut and lime and his secret weapon – The Da Vinci Syrup. Stephano enticed us with his Black forest Gateau Frappe rich in chocolate topped with cream and a raspberry to garnish. Measuring up the guys from Coco Cubano took to it Cuban style. Runner up Graham Mc Cormack mixed a banana mango kaluah cocktail blended through with dark chocolate and Mel the Cobana Mojo, a hit of Rum Lime and Lemon.
The winner, Zach took us on an Island Dream served in tall Smoo glasses this presentation made cocktail making an art in its own. Lining the sides of the glass with wild berry coulis then blending together tropical juice and Barfresh’s Smoo smoothie mix a tantalising blend of strawberry, pineapple sorbet and ice gave the judges satisfaction in a sip.
Proud sponsors Blendtec were impressed by the display and flair of creativity each competitor showed. Congratulations to our winner and runner up and a big thank you to Blendtec for making this competition possible!
